Consulate officials met with Sheyaw organization and other members of the Yes We Can Network forYes We Can Network for Persons with Disabilities to discuss the particular challenges facing those with special needs in the IKR. They mentioned that job skills training, greater understanding within the broader community, and additional support in schools are desperately needed. Shilan Goran, Executive Director of Judal NGO for children with special needs, told us how she successfully lobbied Parliament to pass the Law on Rights and Privileges of Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs, and her efforts to update and implement the law to better serve those with special needs in healthcare and education.
